8 facts you didn’t know about in-vitro-fertilization (IVF)

Couple IVFA woman bearing a child is not a matter of course, but a small wonder. Many factors must come together at the right time so that a new life can come into existence. As an estimate, every 10th couple in their middle age is not able to have children. Many of these affected couples go through a nerve-wracking and time of uncertainty, in which they consider the possible methods of the modern reproductive medicine to fulfill their desire to have children . The in-vitro fertilization is one of those methods. Read the 8 most important facts about the prospects, workflow and the risks of IVF treatment:

1. Strictly speaking, IVF is not artificial insemination and does not take place in a test tube.

Although the Latin meaning of the word in-vitro fertilization is “insemination in glass”, the so-called culture dishes are used in place of the test tubes. Moreover, no artificial injection of the sperm is done, but instead the egg and the sperms are brought together, only outside of the body. The insemination is, therefore, “natural”, but only outside the body.

2. IVF is a method that can help women become pregnant, who have problems with their Fallopian tubes.

If the Fallopian tubes are not working, the egg cell cannot reach the uterus and cannot get lodged in the uterus. In the in-vitro fertilization, therefore, the mature egg cells are extracted and are brought together with the male sperm in an incubator. Thereafter, the fertilized egg cells are transferred to the uterus. In this way, the blocked Fallopian tubes can be bypassed.

3. An IVF treatment includes one complete female cycle.

On the first day of the menstrual bleeding, the maturity of the egg cell is enhanced by giving an injection, this is known as hormonal stimulation. On the ninth day of the cycle, the maturity of the follicles is checked by means of ultrasound and blood test. On the basis of this result, the time of ovulation is determined. The egg cells are taken 36 hours after the initial injection. The sperms of the male now have 24 hours for fertilizing the egg cells in the culture dish. Around the 17th day of the cycle, the fertilized egg cells can be placed back in the uterus. About ten days later, the much-awaited pregnancy test can be done with a hopefully positive result.

4. The hormonal stimulation has advantages and disadvantages.

Normally, one egg cell becomes mature in the body of a woman in each cycle. An injection of natural messengers can increase the number of the egg cells and hence also the probability of success of the treatment. Every egg cell does not develop into an embryo. If several embryos are present, the most promising one can be selected from these. Possible side-effects are an increase in the cycle symptoms, like headache and mood fluctuations. Even serious problems like over-stimulation of the ovaries cannot be ruled out. Asper experience, if a women decides to undergo an IVF treatment without hormonal stimulation, the number of treatment cycles required increases.

5. Multiple and tubal pregnancies are possible risks.

The risk of a multiple pregnancy increases, if several embryos are transferred to the uterus. In case of two embryos, the probability for a twin pregnancy is around 10%. The decision of, how many embryos should be used, is up to the couple. In exceptional cases, a tubal pregnancy can also be caused, if the embryos do not get lodged in the uterus, but instead in the Fallopian tube. Both of the cases could cause pregnancy complications.

6. The chances of success of each embryo transfer are around 30 – 40%.

A lot of factors influence the success rate of an in-vitro fertilization, including the age of the woman, the reason for infertility and the number of embryos transferred. The entire process of treatment is very fragile and does not always succeed. In this case, it can be repeated in the next cycle. The doctor clarifies, whether an interval between the cycles individually makes sense.

7. ICSI is an alternative, if the fertilization outside of the body does not succeed naturally.

Knstliche Befruchtung einer Eizelle - In-vitro-Fertilisation

In case of IVF, the sperms and the eggs should meet each other by themselves. If the sperms are too slow, too weak or too few, they can be injected directly in the egg cell in the laboratory (ICSI = Intracytoplastic Sperm Injection). This process can be successful, even when the egg membrane (amnion) is thick. During the course of the treatment, there is no difference between IVF and ICSI for the couple.

8. During the IVF treatment, one should avoid smoking and intake of caffeine and alcohol.

Drugs and poisonous pleasures of all kinds can harm the embryo and cause miscarriages and infertility. Sexual intercourse, on the other hand, can be done during an IVF cycle. Studies have even indicated that this improves the quality of the embryos.

5 ways to break into the wedding industry

Nwobu, a Nigerian American based in Philadelphia, started her MunaLuchi Bride magazine to fill a void she saw in the wedding industry. Bridal magazines, she noticed, didn't represent multicultural weddings,
"I want readers to open our magazine and to be inspired," she says. "I want them to be able to think outside of the box. I want them to see themselves," the editor-in-chief adds.
Below are five tips extracted from her experience of launching a bridal magazine.

Don't let a recession scare you

Nwobu started MunaLuchi amid the global recession, when sales of most print magazines and newspapers were falling.
"People were telling us 'you're crazy! Print is dying,'" she says. "But print is not dying. I would say it's evolving if anything, but you also have to know how to evolve and be on social media," she adds.
In addition the print magazine, MunaLuchi is also a a glossy blog. Nwobu's commitment to the magazine's digital presence has paid off: the website clocks 500,000 page views each month and boasts over half a million followers across its social media platforms.

Spot the opportunity

The Philadelphia-based entrepreneur was a guest at many famously lavish Nigerian weddings, but she noticed that the kind of nuptials she attended weren't represented in mainstream bridal publications.
"The market was very one-sided, honestly. There was very little diversity," she says. "If you picked up a bridal magazine you probably would not see any bride of color in there. You might see her in an ad as a bridesmaid or something like that, but you wouldn't see her wedding represented."
This lack of visibility gave Nwobu and her husband, who is her business partner, the push to carve a corner out of the wedding industry for multicultural brides.

Get a distributor

Nwobu printed 10,000 copies of her first issue without a clear business strategy of how she was going to sell them. She stored them in her garage while trying to find outlets that would carry MunaLuchi.
"That was a huge mistake," she says. "You are supposed to get distribution and then they place orders and then you know how many copies you have to print, so we did it backwards," she adds.
Luckily, Nwobu and her husband managed to find a distributor and MunaLuchi now prints 50,0000 copies per issue.

Don't limit yourself

Even though she is Nigerian American, Nwobu's magazine doesn't only focus on brides of her own heritage.
"It's not just Nigerian weddings it's not just African-American weddings," she says. "There are so many different aspects that make up the black woman, and then you've got the Asian weddings too. We are really a multicultural magazine," Nwobu says.

Study the market

The editor credits her success to her analytical approach, which she notes helped override her lack of publishing experience.
"I mean, we've made lots of mistakes, of course, because we didn't' know anything about publishing," she says, "but in the process we've learned so much about our market that we know our readers inside out. That's why we've been able to give them exactly what they need: because we analyze and we understand what they're looking for," Nwobu adds.

You probably won't be surprised to hear that a new report found that teens and tweens spend a lot of time watching TV, videos and movies, playing video games, reading, listening to music and checking social media, but you might be somewhat shocked (I was!) by just how much time.
On any given day, teens in the United States spend about nine hours using media for their enjoyment, according to the report by Common Sense Media, a nonprofit focused on helping children, parents and educators navigate the world of media and technology.
Let's just put nine hours in context for a second. That's more time than teens typically spend sleeping, and more time than they spend with their parents and teachers. And the nine hours does not include time spent using media at school or for their homework.

Talking to teens about social media
Talking to teens about social media

Tweens, identified as children 8 to 12, spend about six hours, on average, consuming media, the report found.
"I think the sheer volume of media technology that kids are exposed to on a daily basis is mind-boggling," said James Steyer, chief executive officer and founder of Common Sense Media, in an interview.
"It just shows you that these kids live in this massive 24/7 digital media technology world, and it's shaping every aspect of their life. They spend far more time with media technology than any other thing in their life. This is the dominant intermediary in their life."
The report, the first large-scale study to explore tweens and teens' use of the full range of media, according to Common Sense Media, is based on a national sample of more than 2,600 young people ages 8 to 18.

Are we addicted to the Internet?
When it comes to consuming media on screens, including laptops. smartphones and tablets, teens, on average, spend more than six and a half hours on screens and tweens more than four and a half hours, the report found.
"I just think that it should be a complete wake-up call to every parent, educator, policymaker, business person (and) tech industry person that the reshaping of our media tech landscape is first and foremost affecting young people's lives and reshaping childhood and adolescence," said Steyer, who's most recent book is "Talking Back to Facebook: The Common Sense Guide to Raising Kids in the Digital Age."
Here are a few more eye-opening highlights about the media habits of Generation Z, according to the report:

No. 1: What's wrong with multitasking?

If teens are, on average, spending nine hours a day consuming media, it's not such a surprise they're often doing it while doing their homework. Half of teens say they "often" or "sometimes" use social media or watch TV while doing their homework. Some 60% say they text and more than 75% say they listen to music while working on schoolwork at home.

    Dangers of too much media?

And of the kids who multitask, most don't think it effects the quality of their work. Nearly two-thirds say watching TV or texting makes no difference and more than 50% feel the same way when it comes to social media.
"Teenagers think that multitasking during homework doesn't affect their ability to learn and ... we know it does," said Steyer, citing studies such as one at Stanford, which found dramatic differences in cognitive control and the ability to process information between heavy media multitaskers and light media multitaskers.
"It's completely obvious that you can't multitask and be as effective and competent."

No. 2: Boys choose Xbox, Girls Instagram

There are definite gender differences when it comes to media habits of teens and tweens.
Some 62% of teen boys say they enjoy playing video games "a lot" versus 20% of girls. When it comes to using social media, 44% of teen girls say they enjoy it "a lot" versus 29% for boys. Girls, on average, spend about 40 minutes more on social networks than boys, with girls spending about an hour and a half a day on social media and boys a little under an hour.

    Teen likes: The '100 club'

"I definitely think it shows that girls use media and technology today for more social interaction and boys are much more likely to be gamers, including addicted gamers," said Steyer of Common Sense Media. "There are real differences between boys and girls so that's a message to parents and educators, you have to be aware of the differences."

No. 3: The digital equality gap is real

While ours kids are growing up in a 24/7 digital world, children in lower income households have less access to technology than kids from wealthier families. Only 54% of teens in households making less than $35,000 a year have a laptop in their home versus 92% of teens in households making $100,000 a year or more.
"There's an access gap that whether you like the impact of media or technology on our kids' lives and there are pros and cons, the truth is poor kids have far less access than wealthy kids do and that's just wrong especially when Internet platforms and digital platforms are so key to everything from school to getting a job to connecting with other people," said Steyer. "So closing the digital inequality gap is a huge public-policy issue."

No. 4: Guess what? TV and music still tops

Despite all the new media tweens and teens have at their disposal -- everything from Instagram to YouTube to Xbox, tweens and teens still rank watching TV and listening to music as the activities they enjoy "a lot" and do every day, ahead of playing video games and mobile games, watching online videos and using social media. In fact, only 10% of teens ranked social media as their favorite activity.
"I think the bottom line there is it's a utility now," said Steyer referring to social media. "Increasingly kids are realizing that Facebook and Instagram and SnapChat, they go there and ... they feel they have to go there but they don't love it and that's good. In my opinion, that's good."

No. 5: 'It's a mobile world'

Consider these stats: 53% of tweens -- kids 8 to 12 -- have their own tablet (my kids will try to use this as ammunition to get a tablet of their own!), and 67% of teens have their own smartphones. Mobile devices account for 41% of all screen time for tweens and 46% for teens.
"It's a mobile world so these kids live on mobile platforms," said Steyer. "I mean if you look at the numbers, it's clear that you have this clear transformation of teens and tweens' lives through digital and mobile platforms."
The implications of this digital transformation are huge for tweens and teens, educators, policymakers and parents. For one, living and communicating via mobile devices gets in the way of empathy, said Steyer.
Texting is so much less empathetic than having a conversation in person and looking somebody in the eye and having physical or at least a verbal presence with them, he said.
Add in the issues of digital addiction and the attention and distraction implications that come with mobile devices, and "empathy is really, really under siege," he said.
"That's a huge issue in terms of society and human relationships and how young people are evolving in a social, emotional context." he added, saying more research is needed.
Common Sense Media's next study, due out next year, is about the impact of digital addiction and distraction.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. It occurs in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 12,900 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed and about 4,100 women will die from this disease in 2015. These estimations are shocking but true. Almost all cases of cervical cancer are caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). Women of all ages are at risk of developing this cancer after they begin having sexual intercourse.

Risk factors include unsafe sex, multiple sex partners, being overweight, use of oral contraceptives, genetics, smoking, poor immunity, multiple pregnancies and first pregnancy at a young age. One of the scariest things about this cancer is that it does not show any symptoms in its early stages. After the disease has spread to the bladder, liver, intestines or lungs, the symptoms are more prominent. Being an adult woman, if you notice any unusual changes or symptoms affecting your reproductive organs, consult your doctor.
Always bear in mind that your chances of successfully treating cervical cancer are higher if it is detected during the early stages. With the use of Pap tests and the HPV vaccination, it’s become possible to treat as well as prevent cervical cancer. With knowledge of the risk factors and warning signs of cervical cancer, you can save yourself and others from a lifetime of suffering.

Cervical Cancer Warning Signs

Here are the top 10 warning signs of cervical cancer you should not ignore.

1. Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding Most women diagnosed with cervical cancer experience irregular bleeding. An untimely bout of vaginal bleeding that occurs regularly could be an indicator of cervical cancer. It could also be due to other medical conditions, such as a hormonal imbalance, pelvic inflammatory disease or an infection in the pelvic organs. As cancer spreads to nearby tissues, it creates new, abnormal capillaries that break easily and cause bleeding. Such bleeding may happen between menstrual periods, after sexual intercourse, after menopause and even after a pelvic exam. Contact your doctor if you experience bleeding between menstrual cycles or following sexual intercourse.

2. Unusual Vaginal Discharge A little bit of clear, odorless vaginal discharge is normal. However, if vaginal discharge increases, smells foul or has an irregular appearance, it could be a sign of infection or cervical or endometrial cancer. When suffering from cervical cancer, vaginal discharge could be heavy, pale, watery, brown or mixed with blood. If you experience this symptom, report it to your doctor immediately.

3. Pain during Intercourse Painful intercourse is another important warning sign of cervical cancer. This symptom indicates advanced cervical cancer, which means the cancer has spread throughout tissues and reproductive organs. Apart from pain, you may also experience other symptoms, such as thick, foul-smelling vaginal discharge. There are other possible reasons for this particular problem, such as an infection or STD. Do not ignore this symptom. Get your cervix examined by your doctor.

4. Pelvic Pain Pelvic pain is common among women. Cramping and aches are a normal part of the menstrual cycle and do not usually indicate the presence of cancer or any other serious condition. However, pain that lasts for longer periods of time and occurs more frequently could be a sign of cervical cancer. If suffering from cervical cancer, you may experience pelvic pain at unusual times, and the pain may start suddenly at any time during the month. In addition, such pain usually does not occur unless the cancer is in a very advanced stage. If you have experience pelvic pain or pressure, visit your doctor to find out the exact cause and rule out the possibility of cancer.

5. Discomfort while Urinating Cervical cancer can also cause discomfort during urination. In fact, it is one of the most obvious and prevalent symptoms of this deadly disease. Urinary discomforts include burning, stinging or a tight sensation while urinating. Such symptoms occur when the cancer has spread to nearby tissue. This requires immediate attention to prevent further damage. However, urinary discomforts also can be due to other causes, such as a urinary tract infection, bladder problem, yeast infection or sexually transmitted disease (STD). Get checked by your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

6. Heavier and Longer Menstrual Periods Menstrual periods that are heavier and longer than normal are another common warning sign of cervical cancer. Irritation of the cervix, possibly due to spread of cervical cancer, can cause this problem. Bleeding is considered heavy if you have to change sanitary napkins or tampons more often than once every 2 hours. Apart from cancer, heavy bleeding can be due to a hormonal imbalance, fibroids, polyps, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis or thyroid, liver or kidney disease. It can even happen due to certain medications. Any change in the consistency of monthly periods should be discussed with your doctor. Remember that prevention is better than the cure.

7. Loss of Bladder Control incontinence Needing frequent bathroom breaks is common among pregnant women and people who have increased their fluid intake. If you have this problem without any known reason, it may need further evaluation. Bladder control is a primary issue when suffering from cervical cancer. It typically indicates that the cancer has spread beyond a localized area and is affecting the bladder or other parts of the urinary tract. People diagnosed with this cancer often experience loss of bladder control coupled with blood in the urine. If you have loss of bladder control (incontinence) or notice blood in your urine, consult a doctor.

8. Unexplained Weight Loss unexplained-weight-loss-opt As with other forms of cancer, unexplained weight loss can indicate cervical cancer. When suffering from cancer, the immune system works hard to fight it. The body produces small proteins called cytokines, which break down fat at a much higher rate than normal. This leads to weight loss, irrespective of your diet. If you are suddenly losing weight and have some of the other symptoms mentioned in this article, it could be due to cervical cancer. It’s important that you get a medical check

9. Constant Fatigue fatigue A busy day can wear anyone out, but with a little rest, you feel refreshed and full of energy. If you are feeling low or lack of energy most of the time, despite resting, it could be a cause for concern. When suffering from cancer, healthy red blood cells are replaced by white blood cells to fight off the disease. This causes anemia, leading to fatigue, lack of energy and loss of appetite. In addition, there is decreased oxygen supply to the body. An anemic response is a warning sign that the cancer is progressing rapidly, and you need to get it treated as quickly as possible.

10. Leg Pain leg pain Women diagnosed with cervical cancer often experience swelling and pain in their legs. When the cancer spreads, it obstructs blood flow, which causes swelling in the legs. Swollen legs often create a sore, painful sensation, making it hard to carry out your day-to-day activities. When caused by cervical cancer, the pain tends to be constant and increases in intensity over time. At times, there also may be back pain. Remember, having leg pain does not mean you have cancer.

If you have leg pain and a few more of the above-mentioned symptoms for a few weeks, it is best to get yourself checked by a doctor. Preventive Tips Women between 20 and 30 years old should get a screening every 3 years. Those 30 to 65 years old should be screened every 3 to 5 years. Get an HPV vaccination before your early 20s.

Quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoke. Take the right steps to prevent STDs. This will help reduce your risk of cervical cancer. Resources: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cervicalcancer/detailedguide/cervical-cancer-key-statistics

A group of breast cancer survivors have bravely posed for an inspirational new exhibition that shows the scars that remain from their fight against the disease.
Fifty women took part in the portraits, that were taken by photographer Julia Holland, who spent two years documenting women she meth through her work with charity Keeping Abreast.
The unashamed classical-style framed portraits show women who have either had breast cancer or preventative mastectomies proudly showing their breasts.
One model, Jacky Robertson - who underwent a gruelling course of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a mastectomy - said her photo filled her with ‘pride and strength’.

The 60-year-old, from Stonehouse, Glos., said: “You don’t know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
"It’s in the eyes - look. There is contentment there.
“We are happy with who we are. And we have survived.”
The exhibition, called Femininity Comes From Within, features women aged between 30 and 70, photographed before or after reconstructive breast surgery.
It shows each survivor bare-chested with a pink scarf with a short story underneath about the woman.

Charlene Angel-Trueman, from Barroway Drove, Norfolk, posed with her baby daughter Evie, after she underwent preventative surgery aged 27.
Charlene underwent the surgery after learning five female relatives had died from breast cancer.
She said: “I want my little girl to know that her femininity should be built from a person’s own inner strength and self-respect.”

"I hope that by being involved in this project she, and whoever attends the exhibition, can see and appreciate that femininity comes from within, which should be accepted and not judged.”
Photographer Julia added: “All the women were brave enough to come and take part because they wanted to make a difference to others facing breast cancer.”
The exhibition is opening at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital before a national tour to raise money for Keeping Abreast, which raises money for breast reconstruction
About the Aerotropolis
Major airports have become key nodes in global production and enterprise systems offering them speed, agility, and connectivity. They are also powerful engines of local economic development, attracting aviation-linked businesses of all types to their environs. These include, among others, time-sensitive manufacturing and distribution facilities; hotel, entertainment, retail, convention, trade and exhibition complexes; and office buildings that house air-travel intensive executives and professionals.
The rapid expansion of airport-linked commercial facilities is making today's air gateways anchors of 21st century metropolitan development where distant travelers and locals alike can conduct business, exchange knowledge, shop, eat, sleep, and be entertained without going more than 15 minutes from the airport. This functional and spatial evolution is transforming many city airports into airport cities.
As more and more aviation-oriented businesses are being drawn to airport cities and along transportation corridors radiating from them, a new urban form is emerging—the Aerotropolis—stretching up to 20 miles (30 kilometers) outward from some airports. Analogous in shape to the traditional metropolis made up of a central city and its rings of commuter-heavy suburbs, the Aerotropolis consists of an airport city and outlying corridors and clusters of aviation-linked businesses and associated residential development. A number of these clusters such as Amsterdam Zuidas, Las Colinas, Texas, and South Korea's Songdo International Business District have become globally significant airport edge-cities representing planned postmodern urban mega-development in the age of the Aerotropolis.
A spatially compressed model of the Aerotropolis showing its current and likely future evolution is illustrated below. No Aerotropolis will look exactly like this but most will eventually take on similar features, led by newer "greenfield" airports less constrained by decades of prior surrounding development. The Aerotropolis is thus much more of a dynamic, forward-looking model than a static, cross-sectional model reflecting historic airport-area development to date.

Although most aerotropolis development to date has been organic, spontaneous and haphazard — often spawning congestion and environmental problems — in the future it can be markedly improved through strategic infrastructure and urban planning.
  • Dedicated airport expressway links (aerolanes) and airport express trains (aerotrains) should efficiently connect airports to major regional business and residential concentrations.
  • Special truck-only lanes should be added to airport expressways, as should improved interchanges to reduce congestion.
  • Time-cost accessibility between key nodes should be the primary aerotropolis planning metric rather than distance.
  • Businesses should be steered to locate in proximity to the airport based on their frequency of use, further reducing traffic while improving time-cost access.
  • Airport area goods-processing activities (manufacturing, warehousing, trucking) should be spatially segregated from white-collar service facilities and airport passenger flows.
  • Noise and emission-sensitive commercial and residential developments should be sited outside high-intensity flight paths.
  • Cluster rather than strip development should be encouraged along airport transportation corridors with sufficient green space between clusters.
  • Form-based codes should establish general design standards for airport area buildings, walkways, travel lanes, landscaping, and public space.
  • Placemaking and wayfinding enhanced by thematic architectural features, public art, and iconic structures should make aerotropolis developments interpretable, navigable, and welcoming.
  • Mixed-use residential/commercial communities housing airport area workers and frequent air travelers should be developed with easy commutes and designed to human scale providing local services and sense of neighborhood.
In short, aerotropolis development and sustainable "smart growth" can and should go hand-in-hand.
The above outcomes will not occur under most current airport area planning approaches which tend to be localized, politically and functionally fragmented, and often conflicted. A new approach is required bringing together airport planning, urban and regional planning, and business-site planning in a synergistic manner so that future Aerotropolis development will be more economically efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and socially and environmentally sustainable. The real question is not whether Aerotropolises will evolve around major airports (they surely will). It's whether they will form and grow in an intelligent manner, minimizing problems and bringing about the greatest returns to the airport, its users, businesses, surrounding communities, and the larger region it serves.

"The true challenge is planning to get the Aerotropolis right. If there is not appropriate planning, airport-area development will be spontaneous, haphazard, economically inefficient, and ultimately unsustainable. The aerotropolis model brings together airport planning, urban and regional planning, and business-site planning to create a new urban form that is highly competitive, attractive, and sustainable."

Housemaids have been known to commit all sorts of atrocities on their employers. From stealing to child molestation/abuse and the likes. Late 2014 a video went viral on the Internet about a maid beating a toddler to near death. The video was very disturbing and painful to watch and most parents showed their displeasure. Early this year a housemaid was also caught on camera breastfeeding her employer's child. These are just a few showing how dangerous it is to leave your child with a stranger. Yet parents haven't seem to learn from all these stories. You go to a random online platform, hire and bring a total stranger to your home to take care of your kids without carrying out a thorough investigation. They sell you a Cock and bull story and you just buy it and give them the job based on sympathy or face value, forgetting that we live in a wicked world. Forgetting how several people have been killed, robbed, duped, raped and abuse by people they met on social media. Yet you go through that same means to bring someone into your home to take care of your kids. I understand that parents are trying to balance their career, work and home but still they need to be weary of opening their houses to strangers. Even a dog or a hen will not let you pick it's puppy or chick without a fight.
Now, How Well Do You Know The Stranger You Are Bringing To Your Home?
Before you hire any domestic worker you need to carry out thorough investigation on them, visit any address they have submitted to you, ask questions about them when you get there and even if they submit names of references to you carry out investigations on them too. These background checks will give you facts and figures to prove genuiety and will help you understand and know who you are hiring. These process may be lengthy but it will save you the heartaches to prevent what happened to the Orekoya's family from happening again. However if you can't go through all this procedures then you can resort to corporate organisations.
We have organisations that are specialised in the sourcing of domestic workers e.g Maids, Cleaners, Gardeners, Gateman, Laundry service etc. Their jobs are to make sure their clients are hiring the right workers. They do thorough background checks for all their workers and vet every claim and information given to them by their employees. If you can't find these organisations close to you, you can visit any registered Estate management firms most of them carry out These services too.
Finally some of us put too much information about ourselves on social media. Your pictures are there, that of your spouse your children, your home address, phone numbers etc making it easy for anyone to track you. We need to be weary of thi,  because you are only making yourself cheap pry for attacks. And we should always remember that the devil does not come in red cape & horns. He will come as everything you've wished for. So be careful who you let in.

My mind has been drawn to the Xenophobic attack on foreigners, going on in South Africa, saw some gruesome and very disturbing pictures that left me sleepless, and i am trying to understand the reasons behind the attacks. Last time it was Kenya Massacre before then is Boko Haram in Nigeria then Libya, Egypt to mention but a few,  now it is Xenophobic attack. And it just makes me wonder, why are we Africans so barbaric in nature, why have we refuse to put these animalistic behaviour aside and plan on how to promote our Economy and indeed our Continent? We find so much joy in killing ourselves and spend most time hating each other yet we complain of Racism, what an irony. How could others love, value or respect you when you do not love or respect yourselves?. These set of people killing foreigners in South Africa on the ground that they are taking over the jobs and opportunities in the country have you stopped to ask yourself, whose fault is it that they are taking over (if truly they are)?. If you were as smart or qualified or as hard working, creative and driven as those foreigners wouldn't you be given the same opportunity as well? Maybe if you weren't so Lazy or ignorant foreigners wouldn't be given so much opportunities than you the legitimate citizen! The jobs are given to those who are qualified. Go to other countries, oh? You think migrants are only in south Africa? Have other countries been killing other immigrants? Other foreign countries wouldn't kill foreigners in their country just because they are taking over the jobs because most times the citizens are even more ambitious and smarter than the foreigners. Now if I were part is that  group of South Africans that are killing foreigners, I would sit down think of how to make myself useful, build myself and become competitive. According to the 2013 UNAIDS report South Africa has an estimated 6.3million people living with HIV more than any country in the world. While the foreigners are busy getting pAID you are busy getting AIDS. What a shame. These and many other challenges in the country to worry about and they all need solutions, from Hunger to Poverty to Aids etc. When you look at all these challenges you will see that the foreigners are not the problem but you. "! Ke e: |xarra ||ke (Ixam) "Unity in diversity" isn't that your motto? Where is the unity in diversity? You have gone against everything you stand for. Stop this madness, Stop this ignorance, stop this evil, stop giving yourselves reasons to kill another human being, #stop Xenophobia in South Africa.

The hamattan season is almost over but i just felt i should post how I've been dealing with it anyway..

First things first, when getting your hot water ready for bath add a little bit of oils (Olive)  into your bathing water, this will reduce the dryness on your skin and make your skin feel soft. So rather than bathing with just your warm water which will make your skin feel dry after bath, add a little oil.
Secondly use a moisturizing cream, if you have a really dry skin you can mix it up with a little shea butter or olive oil for better results.
Moisturize your hair too, very important, because our hair tends to shred more at this time. If possible make protective styles like fring, bob, wigs and the rest, basically any hair style that will hide your hair from dust, dirt and dryness.
Apply lip glosses with vitamin E, to prevent a dry and unattractive lips (no one likes a cracked lips)
Try as much as possible to wear thick clothing all the time, so you don't get sick. And remember to always drink lots of water.
Things u shouldn't do without
*Lip balm
*Essential oils
*Nice jacket or Blazers
*sun glasses
